The Bright Side of Household Breakdowns

Sharing is caring!

So here it is, almost midnight, and I am writing today’s post. I have so many things I want to write about, but a lot of them are just bouncing around in my head, not quite ready to be written. But this last week and weekend was pretty hectic with spring break and kids home and of course sports, and then I went to bed really late last night. I know, the kids had school this morning, but my husband got all them out the door so I could sleep in (kinda). He is good like that. Anyhow, I say kinda slept in because Murphy (overexuberant puppy) kept jumping on the bed and jumping off and jumping on again…it’s really hard to sleep with a 70 pound dog bouncing on the bed because he wants you to get up. He’s like a toddler. I put the pillow over my head. Then once I finally got back to sleep my friend called to go running. So much for sleeping in. I got out of bed and went for a 5 mile run with her. I actually AM glad she woke me up. I needed to run.

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with my post. Right now I am wondering what else can go wrong with my house. Normally I would be irritated and complaining like crazy but with what has happened over the last few months, I have mellowed out about all the little things that go wrong around here. However, I would like the breakdowns to stop!

A month or so ago, we had to replace the dishwasher because it never stopped running. We were wasting a lot of water and energy because we had to remember to stop it ourselves at the end of the cycle rather than it stopping on its own. Then a couple weeks ago, we had to have our stove fixed…several of the burners had stopped working, as well as the griddle (actually the griddle stopped working a few years ago, but we never got it fixed.) I couldn’t really wait on this one. The stove is where I do most of my cooking.

But now we also have a whole new laundry list of other things that need to be fixed. Fortunately there is a bright side of things!

1) The oven door does not seal tight when it closes…the hinges are broken. Bright side: We have a double oven. I can use the other one. And I don’t like to bake anyway.

2) The garage door broke. Bright side: It’s a good thing that we’re headed into the warmer months, because I can park outside.

3) The washing machine broke! I guess when it rains, it pours! Bright side: We have an old washing machine in the basement that we never got rid of and still works. So I am trekking up and down two flights of stairs…but I’d rather do that than go to the laundromat.

I think I’m doing pretty good at looking on the bright side of things! But I AM wondering which household appliance will be next? We don’t have much left here…

You are doing great looking on the bright side! A broken washing machine strikes fear in any mother's heart. I'm jealous you had a back up one! What luck!

I know! I am so lucky! I can't even imagine...I probably would not be looking on the bright side...we would have had a new machine in here so fast!

Good on your for looking on the bright side. Life is so much better when you don't sweat the small stuff! Here's hoping your wayward appliances learn to behave themselves! :-)

We replaced our appliances as they broke, fortunately spaced a few years apart. Now we are beginning round two with a new dishwasher - fingers crossed that everything else works for awhile!

Good for you for looking at the bright side of things! I would go crazy if all those things happen to me at once! My mom always says, "if it isn't one thing...it's another"! I definitely agree with that!

You are doing great looking on the bright side! However, I am very happy that you have a spare washing machine. The washing machine breaking down is always the thing that could lead me to having a REAL breakdown!

I would be a really unhappy camper if I was trekking to the laundromat...we would have had a new one in year pronto!
